What is the best way to end a long term relationship with someone you still love but don't see a future with?

I have a long term boyfriend who is my best friend. We have been together for three years and I love him a lot but my feelings have changed and I can't see myself marrying him. I have been umming and ahhing about us for about a year and know I need to end it- it's just a matter of time.

How is the best way to do t without hurting him too much? He won't be expecting it. I feel so bad and I am dreading it.What is the best way to end a long term relationship with someone you still love but don't see a future with?
so there is nobody else.............right?

he's a tip, when you fire an employee you always go to their office, just in case they scream or cry..........that way after I tell them briefly and directly..........I can leave.........

i once did it in my space, (office) never again........

be brief, be firm, be direct, be honest, be kind, don't leave any cracks in the door open, and have an exit plan........

surely this is painful for you too.........

quick honest and clean..........good luck

Honesty is the best policy. I think you two should sit down and have a very long discussion. Maybe getting it all out in the open will make you feel closer to him, would could lead to a future together.
how do you know you dont have a future?

when your still in the present.

be cautious, because if you still love him. and he knows it- he'll probably find it hard to understand why your leaving him.
