How should you break off a relationship with someone you love but know you have no future with?

My best friend and I started a relationship sixth months ago. He is amazing, and we fell in love (something I did not expect to do in high school). We have just graduated and are entering the 'real world'. I am not looking to get married any time soon, but want to date people I could potentially marry (to avoid wasted time). Under an issue of faith, he is not one of those ';potentials';. We knew exactly what we were getting in to, and have discussed the fact that we will have to end the relationship, but want to wait because we know that our feelings are not going to change.

I want to know how, when the time comes, do I end this?How should you break off a relationship with someone you love but know you have no future with?
The time is now. The longer you wait the harder it will be.How should you break off a relationship with someone you love but know you have no future with?
I admire your choice to stand firm in your convictions of faith. Since you two already have an understanding that the relationship cannot lead to marriage, I would just use the occasion of graduation to gradually drift apart.

If that doesn't work and closure is needed, just tell him how fond you are of him and that you truly value the times you shared in high school, but it's time for both of you to move into the next phase of your lives. Part with a warm, platonic hug.
Life comes to us only'; one- day -at- a-time'; enjoy the love you feel for each other and don't worry about the future. You are just a high school grad. You have your whole life ahead of you MAYBE - so tomorrow is only a promise. Thank goodness for what you have in the here and now.

Enjoy Life !!
dont end it: if its love, then you wont be able to wait and will ruin your life. if it's true love, then you will be able to wait for the one you really love, and if he isnt your true love, dont go for it. find your true love, but he sounds like a keeper.
';Under an issue of faith';

does that mean religious differences?

couldn't one of you convert?

if not, just sit him down and tell him the time has come to move on

it helps if you have a date lined up that night
Yes just tell him exactly what you have told us. Communication is key in a healthy relationship
